A Challenging Task
Baalu became Environment Minister at a time when protection of environment in the country was becoming an increasingly difficult task. There was all round criticism of the Ministry which was regarded as hindrance in the country’s progress. Given the attention on environment the world over, situation in India also called for strict measures for its protection without compromising with the economic development. Immediately upon assuming charge of the Ministry, Baalu made his intention clear to follow a policy that strikes a balance between environment and development. This was indeed a challenging task for an Environment Minister for a developing country like India |
