Deep Sea Exploration

Deep sea exploration was another policy initiative taken by T.R. Baalu as Petroleum Minister. Till then, ONGC was the only organization engaged in off-shore explorations but confined to shallow waters only. Deep-sea exploration required specially fabricated rigs which can carry out oil prospecting as deep as 3000 meters under the sea. With a single minded pursuit and drive, Baalu saw to it that ONGC took up deep sea exploration projects on the east-coast and Cauveri Off-shore. It was not an easy task for ONGC but the driving spirit in the Petroleum Minister Baalu was always behind them which succeeded in finding new oil fields in the Cauveri off-shore in the deep sea.
