Maharashtra
With C.M. Maharashtra A large package of pending projects of Maharashtra was announced by T.R. Baalu on 25th August 2003 at Mumbai in the presence of the Chief Minister. A classic example is the Kharland Development Project to be implemented in 4 districts, namely, Thane, Raigad, Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri. As a special case the Ministry agreed to reclassify the project from CRZ I to CRZ III. This single project would benefit 3.3 lakhs poor and marginal farmers and bring 65000 Ha of land under agricultural cultivation. Similarly, CRZ notification, 1991 was amended to clear the II phase project of MAHADA (Maharashtra Housing and Development Authority) for construction in 13246 plots for the benefit of a large population from economically weaker sections and
lower/middle income groups in Gorai, Charkok, Varsova nad Mulund Approval of a Rs.1465 crore project of the Western Freeway Sea Link having a total length of 16.92 kms between Worli and Nariman Point was announced by Baalu on the same occasion. With the earlier approval of the Bandra-Worli Link of 1.23 kms, the project, when completed, was to provide a freeway between Nariman Point and Bandra. This link is now in use and is considered a marvel of civil engineering and provides multifarious benefits to Mumbaites besides decongesting the city roads and improving the environment, particularly in terms of vehicular pollution.
