An Oil Conservation Fortnight was observed in January 2000 at New Delhi in collaboration with the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. T.R. Baalu joined the Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Shri Ram Naik along with his Minister of State, Shri Santosh Gangwar to form a human chain to affirm the commitment to conserve petroleum products on January 17, 2000.
A national conference of State Ministers of Environment and Forests was held at New Delhi on May 16-17, 2000. The Conference was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister. Another national Conference of State Ministers of Environment and Forests was held at Coimbtore, Tamilnadu on January 29-
30, 2001. North Eastern Region is vulnerable area in respect of environment and forests. To provide special focus to this region a meeting of Environment and Forests Ministers of North Eastern States including Sikkim was held at Guwahati on 17th November 2001.
