Other Policy Initiatives

Baalu introduced several policy initiatives to make NRCP sustainable and state governments and local bodies more accountable. Contribution of 1/3rd of the 30% states’ share in project cost by public through concerned local bodies and coverage of total sewerage system in a town instead of only peripheral or trunk sewers were two of the many important decisions taken by him. Baalu was also instrumental in providing a quantum jump in plan outlays of National River Conservation Directorate from Rs.766 crore in the IX Plan to Rs.1670 crore in the X Plan.
