DMK Member

When T.R.Baalu was in 7th Standard in 1957, N. Sathiyavakeeswaran, a relative of his school teacher S. Thankaraj, who was an activist of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in Orathanadu, was one of the office bearers of the party He and S. Govindasamy, one of the pioneers of the party, the two gentlemen were enrolling members to the DMK. They came to the Muthaambaal Chatram in which functioned as students hostel where Baalu was staying and asked to become Member of the DMK.
The Dravidian sentiments nurtured by the Teachers of Alangottai Thiruvalluvar Middle School were deeply rooted in his thoughts which further influenced by speeches of Periyar, Anna and Kalaignar. Spurred by these sentiments without any second thought I signed as a member of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam under the psuedoname ‘Ilamuruhu’ and got the Membership card with the precious signature of Perarignar Anna. The house where T.R.Baalu was living with his mother and brother in Lloyds Road, Chennai once caught fire and the Membership Card was one of the many things lost in the fire.
