Introduction of CNG in Delhi
With its very high density of automobiles, Delhi became the third largest air polluting city of the world and the most polluted city of India. Apart from the above measures, Baalu introduced several other initiatives to reduce air pollution in Delhi. The most prominent one was introduction of CNG (compressed natural gas) as a clean fuel for automobiles and to make it mandatory for all commercial vehicles. As a major step to ease the problem of distribution of CNG, Baalu dedicated an online CNG station to the people of Delhi on 29th September 2000. Given the large number of vehicles switching over to CNG in Delhi and to provide matching network for that purpose, Baalu sought the intervention of Prime Minister. This was achieved through a meeting taken by PM on August 30, 2001 to address this problem where Union Home Minister, Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas and Minister for Road Transport and Highways were present besides Baalu. |
