Additional Portfolio of Non-conventional Energy Sources
In November 1997, the then Prime Minister Thiru I.K. Gujral decided to give additional charge of the portfolio of Non-conventional Energy Sources to Thiru T.R. Baalu. This followed the resignation of the incumbent Capt Jain Narain Prasad of Janata Dal, owing to the differences between Thiru Lalu Prasad Yadav and the Central leaders of the Janata Dal resulting in Lalu Prasad Yadav quiting Janata Dal and forming his own party called Rashtrya Janata Dal. Soon after this, the United Front Government led by Thiru I.K. Gujra was toppled and the time was not sufficient enough for Thiru T.R. Baalu to make any impression in this portfolio because consequent to the dissolution of the Lok Sabha and impending elections. The Government having become a care taker government, he refrained from taking any policy decision or major projects in accordance with the traditions and norms. Had he enjoyed a longer tenure, the country would have certainly witnessed indelible impressions of Thru T.R. Baalu, in a sun-rise sector which was mandated the task of harnessing renewable sources of energy in a world which is mad after a quest for alternate sources that are cheap, clean and unending. |
