Consultation with Members of Parliament
Baalu always believed in carrying his Parliament colleagues on board for their valuable advice to improve the quality of programmes of his Ministry. He would often hold meetings of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee of his Ministry at different places in States so that the Committee could have a firsthand report of the issues concerned and take appropriate measures to resolve them. There is an interesting story Baalu would often repeat on the floor of the House. He once invited MPs both from Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha of NRCP States – numbering more than 30 – for consultation on how this programme could be improved further. Though these were the MPs who often criticized this programme in the House, but when it came to share the concern and suggest remedial measures, only two of them turned up for the meeting. He brought this episode to the notice of Hon’ble Speaker, Lok Sabha and Hon’ble Chairperson, Rajya Sabha. |
